Kelly H. Paik is a Seattle-based artist. After a career as a journalist & producer for the National Korean Broadcasting System in Seoul, Korea, she came to the US for higher education. After receiving a doctoral degree in Mass Communication at Syracuse University, she moved on to an academic career as a professor at the University of Oklahoma, teaching and performing research on the effects of mass media. In 2001, she moved to Seattle, Washington, joined the University of Washington, retired, and then dedicated herself to the arts.
s of her artistic endeavors trace back to her academic career; throughout her academic years, she was drawn to the imagery underlying the theories. Indeed, that is how she conceptualized the theories – as images. For example, the theory called “Spiral of Silence” explains why the fear of isolation causes people to remain silent on issues they do care about – was an image.
